Buying Luck

After entering the shrine complex, you have the opportunity to purchase these good luck charms, called naoi, for just 100 yen. I don't really know how they're supposed to work exactly... but after buying them, you bring them to one of the naked men to rip in half. I think that you are then supposed to tie these somewhere or something.
